What does AVID stand for?

Advancement Via Individual Determination (i.e. Moving up Through My own Hard Work)

What is AVID?

It's an elective class designed to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

What does an AVID student look like?

A person who possesses an academic potential plus the desire to work hard, receive additional academic, social & emotional support to help them succeed in rigorous courses and prepare for college & career success. AVID students take at least one Advanced course.

How does my child sign up for AVID?

6th grade students must complete an application by Janury 24. 

Where will my child get more information about AVID and how to apply?

The week of January 13 (during our class lesson and WWJH visit).

After learning about AVID, students will bring home information and a QR code that they can scan to apply for the AVID course. Students will be notified, with either a letter of confirmation into the AVID class, or notification that they are on a waiting list.
