Hayley

This year I’ll be learning more about interior design. I will be taking online courses about interior designers and learning how to make a space feel bigger and more cohesive. I’m going to make a storyboard/collage for my dream home I’m designing. I will draw up rough sketches before making it digitally on my computer.

Claire

Hi! My name is Claire, and I'm in grade nine currently. For my STRIVE project, I will be learning some Portuguese!

Language learning has always been something that has interested me, and I thought this would be a great place to apply my interest. My goals for this project are to learn phrases useful for tourism and travel, along with some basic words and conversational phrases. Portugal and Brazil are places I would like to go someday, and by learning tourism language and basic words I would be able to have an easier and more enjoyable experience.

I think it's super cool that I can share my learning through my website, and I am looking forward to this project! Even though I know I won't be fluent in Portuguese by the end of this year, I hope I will be able to accomplish a goal I can be proud of.

Addi

My name is Addison Schmidt and I am going to be learning how to play the acoustic guitar. I'm currently in grade 9 and by the end of this year I hope to be able to play a few songs and have a basic knowledge of how the guitar works and different parts of it.

This summer I found an interest in music and decided to teach myself a few chords. I really enjoyed it and decided to learn more.

During the first few months of STRIVE I will begin to practice playing different chords, learn about how the guitar works and parts of it, and eventually learn a few songs later on. My dad will help me and be my mentor for this project.

Leah

This year for Strive I am going to create my own cookbook. I will be trying out all of the recipes before adding them to the cookbook. So far I am planning on having five sections in my cookbook (breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner, and dessert). If I think that a recipe needs altering, I will change it before adding the recipe to my cookbook. I would describe my style of cooking as more "homestyle", so my cookbook will have more recipes in that style. I hope to have the cookbook done by May!

Lachlan

Hello I am Lachlan and in this adventure I will be walking you through multiple steps of survival. If you don't already know I have some experience with sleeping in the bush alone, and have done it multiple times.  This is a hard task because you need to think about more than one thing when you are in that kind of situation. When there is a deadly animal you make the least amount of sound as you can. When there is no food, you forage for plants, roots and flowers. The most important thing is WATER. If you are hiking in the wilderness try to stay near some sort of water source. This is just the beginning of this huge adventure. Read  more to find out what happens next...

Reid

My name is Reid Miller and I am in Grade 9. For my Strive project this year I will be doing woodworking. I chose woodworking because my dad does woodworking and by watching him I have started to like it as well. I thought that it was a good subject because in Home Economics/Industrial Arts I am doing Woodworking. Mr. Kipe, my woodworking teacher, can also help me improve my woodworking skills. Before I start my projects I will decide how many hours I will need to spend on my projects in a week.

Taylor

I'm Taylor Neufeld, I am currently in grade 9. This year I will be making 2 different feed rations and feeding them to Lambs to see which ration is more profitable. I will weigh the lambs each week and mark their weight on a graph. Once the lambs are old enough to sell they will go to the Winnipeg Stockyards. Then I will take the cost of each ration and subtract that off of the sale prices and find which is more profitable.

Nixon

Hello! My name is Nixon and for my STRIVE project, I will be doing a feed study and how it impacts the milk production and health of the herd. I will also see how it  affects each stage of growth on our dairy farm.

Charlotte

My name is Charlotte and for my Strive project I'm going to learn about what it takes to become a mechanical engineer.  I will explore different engineering software and I will learn some basic C.A.D. (computer automated drafting) skills.  I will learn about mechanical advantage, pulley systems, gear ratios, and mechanical design.  My goal is to take a manual boat lift, and convert it into a mechanical boat lift.  A family friend of mine who is a mechanical engineer has offered to expose me to mechanical engineering in both the agriculture sector as well as the aerospace industry.  My dad, who developed specialized medical equipment, has offered to show me his old workplace to expose me to the relationship between engineer and machinist. I am excited to start my project and I hope that you enjoy it too!

Hayley

Hi, my name is Hayley Enns. I am 14 years old and in Gr. 10.  At school, my favorite subject is the AP Bio course I’m taking in 2nd semester. I like to play volleyball and I'm on the Elm Creek Cobra JV girls volleyball team. In this school year, I am doing a foods and nutrition project. I am running a youtube and instagram page for my channel, Farm Girl Foods. I have a website on ‘Wix’ that has a blog along with my account info and recipes I have created. Near the end of the year, I will be creating a recipe book that I will sell to those who’d like homemade recipes that are simple to follow but are delicious.

Klaten

Hi my name is Klaten Dawydiuk and my Strive project is woodworking. I would like to get better at building and carving because I think it's handy to know and a good creative thing to do. I will be using different tools to complete each project and I have lots of different ideas. Some things that I would like to make are a night stand and a shelf. I would also like to carve spatulas and spoons. I might be selling some of these things or giving them away as gifts. I'm looking forward to this project and it should be a lot of fun.

Tia

My strive project is about raising and selling guinea pigs. I already bred them during the summer so I have babies right now that I will sell. I'm also going to breed them again in the spring.

I will have to keep track of how much money their food costs and how much money I make off of them. I'll also keep my blog updated about major things that happen to them, like if one passes away or I keep a baby.

I’m very excited to be doing this project and I hope I do well!

Marleen

For my STRIVE project this year, my goal is for the dairy farmers in Manitoba to learn and understand Triple aAa. I want to compare two methods of breeding in Holsteins,  Triple aAa  and genomics. I believe that every dairy farmer will benefit from using the Triple aAa method of breeding cows rather than using genomics only. I am excited to see Manitoba dairy farmers learn what Triple aAa is, and have the chance to try it for themselves!

Kiya

My name is Kiya Burton and I am in Grade 10. I chose my STRIVE project to work on my seven-plus novels. I am very passionate about my writing, characters, and ideas. STRIVE is going to help me push myself in terms of trying different genres and working on my writing style. This class will help me in the future to pursue being a published author.

Kylee

Hi! My name is Kylee Donley, and my STRIVE project this year is going to be about World War 1. I will be working on this book by researching, writing my own paragraphs and even being very creative by making poppies to commemorate Remembrance Day on November 11. I chose WW1 because I am quite interested in the topic.

Quin

My name is Quinlan Enns and I am in Grade 10. For my STRIVE project, I want to look into the four major sports leagues (NHL, MLB, NFL and NBA), as well as the CFL, and their past champions. I am interested in seeing each teams’ past accomplishments and their current rosters. My goal for STRIVE is to learn more about the 133 teams and also to learn how to create a web site in the process. I want to learn how to create a website that is easily accessible and that has a cool design.

Avery

Hello everyone!  My name is Avery and I will be creating my very own website, about agriculture, specifically educating individuals on fun facts, and misconceptions about farming! I am aware that most people in our rural area of Elm Creek are already quite diverse in agriculture; so my target audience is those in larger cities or non-farming communities. I'm hoping to make my website interesting and visually appealing for readers, to the best of my abilities. Hopefully someone will be able to discover something they hadn't known before, or find something interesting about agriculture!

Tex

Hi! My name is Tex Nelson. I am in Grade 10 and for my STRIVE project I will be writing  songs and learning how to play the acoustic guitar. The type of music that I listen to is pop, folk pop, blue-eyed soul; some of the artists that play this type of songs that I listen to are Ed Sheeran, Calum Scott, Lewis Capaldi, and Chase Goehring. What I am hoping to do is have a song done by the end of the year or even more. I will be writing a song about my family. This is part of a song from Calum Scott:

“‘But I was still missing one special piece

My father looked at me

He said, "I love you no matter what

I just want you to be happy and always be who you are

He wrapped his arms around me

Said, "Don't try to be what you're not

'Cause I love you no matter what’

Duncan

My name is Duncan Wilson. I am a person who has always been fascinated by fantasy-based books ever since I started reading them as a child. I am fascinated by these books, so I decided that for my STRIVE project, I would create a novel about a fantasy world or in a technical case fantasy worlds. The reason why I say worlds is because my main character gets reincarnated as he dies into another fantasy world with different types of energies.

Trinity

For my STRIVE project, I am going to be finishing up editing and proofreading the current novel I'm writing, titled, I'm Slowly Giving Up, as well as starting a sequel to it! The book I'm Slowly Giving Up is about a young girl, Rianna Brooke, who longs for more in her "cookie cutter" neighbourhood. It is set in a different world, in a made-up town called Echo, where if you aren't the same as everyone else, you're killed. The genre of the series is fantasy with a lot of mystery and adventure! I have been very passionate about writing novels since I was eight, and I finally feel confident enough to put my writing out there for other people, instead of just me. STRIVE will allow me to take my love of writing to the next level!

Kaylen

My name is Kaylen and I am going to be doing a fitness program. I am going to try to build muscle and improve in basketball.  I am going to go on a diet where I eat a lot of healthy foods for better performance. I am also going to be using pre-workouts to build protein and more muscle at a faster pace. I am going to keep track of how many hours I put into it, and I am going to do a before and after photo to show what working out and not eating junk food all the time can do to you.

Ethan M.

Hi, my name is Ethan Miller, My project for this year is data collection on my collection of hot wheels cars, l have over 300 cars. My project will be to find out how much I paid for them and how much they are worth now. I think this will be a good project for me because it is my biggest interest and I have a lot of hot wheels cars so it would take quite a bit of work to research them.

I have two of each car, one that I open and the other is to keep in the package to keep in good condition.

Harleigh

My name is Harleigh Carlson and I am in grade 12.  This year I still wanted to do something with agriculture and farm to plate, but I knew we wouldn’t be able to get into other schools.  I decided on a Farm to Plate Cookbook.  The idea behind this is that all of the foods and products I use are locally produced.  I will use homegrown beef and pork, chickens from neighbours, as well as vegetables from our garden and other stands.

Sheylyn

My STRIVE project this year will be developing lesson plans and teaching dance to the Grade 3s.  I am going to research easier, creative movement for the students. l.  I will teach them the dance combo in the gym for the grade three students.  This project will help me learn a variety of ways to teach children. It will help me to understand the different age groups abilities, likes, and interests.   If in the future, I choose to be a dance coach and work in a dance studio, this project will help develop the skills and knowledge I may need.

Meadow

Hello, my name is Meadow McBride. For my STRIVE project this year I will be training a filly that has never had any human contact. I will be showing my step by step training with the filly, and along the way I will be talking to vets, farriers, other trainers around the area, and race horse muscle trainers. During this STRIVE project I will be talking about horse anatomy, how horses help mental health, and the training. After the filly is completely trained I will take her into at least one rodeo, and I will sell her to a owner that rodeos for a living. I am very excited to be doing this project and I'm excited for the outcome of it.
