Unified School District

Professional development and Digital Learning

The Professional Development and Digital Learning Program is designed to support staff with implementing the California State Standards and core curriculum. Emphasis is placed on the areas of literacy, mathematics and instructional strategies to enhance student success. Training and support are provided year round at school sites and the Professional Development Center.

District Professional Development Specialists present workshops and seminars in all content areas designed to build the capacity of district staff. We provide support to individual schools and/or teachers in devising programs, analyzing data, and enriching the learning environments of our classrooms. A comprehensive professional development program is grounded in the analysis of multiple data points and focuses on accelerating student achievement. The choices are guided by the ultimate goal of students graduating and becoming college and career ready, being mindful of the feedback received from teachers.

Professional development is planned at each individual school according to the needs identified in the school’s Single Site Plan for Student Achievement. Using data regarding student achievement, together with the knowledge of students’ learning styles and needs, an individual school determines the site focus for professional development. Site level collaboration within departments and grade levels also enables teachers to learn from one another and improve instructional strategies to increase student achievement.
