During my final demonstration teaching at Hinaplanon National High School on March 11, 2025, I handled a Grade 9 Mathematics class with the topic "Solving Word Problems Involving Right Triangles." The objective was for students to apply trigonometric ratios in solving real-life problems involving right triangles. I began the lesson with a prayer, greetings, and classroom routines, followed by a review and a drill activity called “Guess My Ratio” to reinforce the students' understanding of SOH-CAH-TOA.

To spark interest and activate prior knowledge, I used a group-based motivation activity called “Picture the Situation,” where students formed visual representations of real-life scenarios involving angles of elevation and depression.
This was followed by a detailed discussion of a sample problem involving a biologist measuring the height of a tree using a laser rangefinder. Students were guided through the process of illustrating the triangle, identifying given values, choosing the correct trigonometric ratio, and solving the problem.
After the discussion, students worked in groups to solve different word problems related to real-life scenarios involving right triangles. They collaborated, shared roles, and presented their solutions. I concluded the lesson by facilitating a generalization and a valuing session, emphasizing the importance of trigonometry in various fields such as engineering, science, and even sports. The class ended with an individual evaluation and a real-world application assignment that required students to find and solve a right triangle situation within the school. The evaluation results says that 97% of the whole class got a perfect score (5/5).
