My cooperating teacher during the internship was Ma’am Merlinda R. Daguman, a Master Teacher III in the Mathematics Department. She was assigned to teach Grade 9 Mathematics and handled multiple sections, namely Kenya, Senegal, Botswana, Chad, Cameroon, and Madagascar. Under her guidance, I was able to observe and participate in effective teaching strategies and classroom management practices. Her mentorship played a vital role in shaping my professional growth as a future mathematics educator.
Ma’am Merlinda Daguman’s classroom is neat, well-organized, and student-friendly. The chairs are arranged in rows, but they can easily be grouped for activities. The walls display educational posters, student work, and reminders that help guide learning.
The room is well-lit and properly ventilated, making it comfortable for both students and the teacher. At the front is a whiteboard and Ma’am Daguman’s desk, with enough space for her to walk around and assist students.
Ma’am Daguman is a kind, patient, and experienced teacher. She explains lessons clearly and always checks if students understand. She maintains discipline with care and respect, creating a positive and supportive learning environment. Observing her classes taught me the importance of balancing content mastery with empathy and classroom presence. Her approach inspired me to become a more student-centered teacher who values both academic achievement and the well-being of learners.
