The climate of this sprawling region is varied. Its northern end on the Seward Peninsula is similar to the Arctic, with frigid winters and cold summers. At its southern end, on the Aleutian Islands, it is similar to the Southeast, with warm winters and cool summers. Everywhere in the region, being near the ocean moderates the climate.
