Events & Programs

Due to Covid-19, these events are subject to change.

The Book Fair is a reading event that provides the books kids want to read. It's a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits. It unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are.

The fair is staffed entirely by volunteers, under the direction of Mrs. Easler. If you are interested or know someone who is interested in volunteering, please contact us at leasler@horrycountyschools.net, or PTA Facebook page. Thank you for your support parents!

Battle of the Books is a reading program for students in our school. the students are encouraged to read books and come together in teams of 3-4 to demonstrate their knowledge of the books they have read. Each team will be given the same 7 books that judges will quiz them on at the Battle. Students will have approximately 11 weeks to read their books. Students must be recommended by their classroom teacher to participate in the Battle of the Books. To be recommended by a teacher, the student must maintain solid grades in all subjects and complete all homework and assignments.

Our school Battle of the Books competition will be held during the school day of April 22nd (location TBD). Each team will choose a team name and team attire for the day of the competition. Your student will be excused from classes on this date to participate. The top three teams from our school battle will compete at the District Battle of the Books competition on Thursday, April 29th.

We need parent volunteers to help with judging, snacks, timing and score keeping at the school and district battle. All volunteers must complete the HCS Volunteer Application. If you have any questions or are available to help, please contact Mrs. Easler at leasler@horrycountyschools.net Parents are also welcome to observe the battle.
