Library Happenings throughout the Year!
Each year, AMS students can choose to create their own team and join Battle of the Books. AMS won the 2020-21 Horry County School Battle of the Books Championship and placed 4th in 2021-22!! For more info and to join Battle of the Books, complete the Battle of the Books Sign-Up form once it is live in the Fall.
Digital citizenship is crucial in today's society to prepare our students for a digital world. All AMS students are required to complete 4 modules each year on digital citizenship based on the Horry County Schools Middle School Digital Citizenship curriculum.
Eighth grade Accelerated ELA/Social Studies students work for months to complete their National History Day projects in preparation for judging at AMS in hopes to go on to the district and national competition.
Each year, we turn the Library Learning Commons into a Poetry Cafe complete with cappuccino, danishes, jazz music, a microphone and stage! Students are encouraged to take the stage to share original poetry or some of their favorites.
At AMS, we place a strong emphasis on literacy. Students are encouraged to read books that interest them, as well as books on their lexile level in order to keep them interested but also keep them challenged.
Check out our many resources to assist with research needs, including databases, search tips, help with the research process, etc.
Spelling Bee
AMS has an annual Spelling Bee. ELA classes conduct a bee to choose a winner to compete in the AMS school-wide Spelling Bee. Sixth-eighth grade students will compete in this bee as representatives from their ELA classes. The school winner represents AMS at a local competition against other area school winners.
Summer Reading
Earn extra credit or win fun prizes while you learn over the summer with the Summer Reading program at Horry County Schools.
Every student who reads between 20 and 40 books this school year, depending on your grade level, and completes a copy of the Reading Honor Roll log will become a member of the Superintendent's Reading Honor Roll. With this honor, you will receive a certificate from the Superintendent and the honor of having your name included among other students who complete the challenge.
The HCS Technology Fair is an annual student technology competition produced by Horry County Schools. The HCS Technology Fair is the highest-level of student technology competition in our county with over 700 projects, representing the work of 1300+ students judged at the competition each spring.
