!! Announcement: I am graduating !!
The 20 works redo is finished! I think its really interesting how you can tell the first half from the second. I think as I went on, I got less and less afraid of color and tried using as many different backgrounds as possible. I like how the colorful backgrounds make the oil pastels pop, and I enjoyed using charcoal on top of it. I think I want to continue with this technique in the next project.Â
Critique went really well and I'm happy with how my drawings were recieved. When Bess said that my drawings were reminiscent of the Polish artists I was thinking of, that made me feel accomplished that I got that across. I agree with how they represent snapshots that are both abstract and realistic, and also agree with how the borders come across as either intentional or messy. I agree with John that the smudge on the green coffee cup one seems intentional (like spilled coffee) but seems messy or unnecessary in others- this is something I must be mindful of with future drawings. Any choice, whether intentional or not, is a decision (this is something that is emphasized a lot in my scene design class!!!). I was interested in the idea of doing multiple little peices for the show, but I definately want to experiment with some bigger drawings. I think a group of many sized drawings would give the end exhibition more of a feeling of a collection of moments and objects that were not so randomly assembled.
