The Harvey Mudd College Department of Computer Science is pleased to offer an exciting research experience through the National Science Foundation (NSF). The experience aims to strike a balance between intellectual challenge and development, while also providing the enjoyment that comes with immersion in a research environment.
The program is open to US citizens and permanent residents who are enrolled in undergraduate degree programs. All qualifying students are welcome, although we especially encourage members of groups traditionally underrepresented in postsecondary CS to apply. The program involves a total of 10 students and other researchers at The Claremont Colleges working with our CS faculty, and lasts for 10 weeks over the summer. Students will receive a summer stipend, as well as on-campus housing and a living stipend.
This is a federally-funded program and requires that student participants be:
At least 18 years old by the start of the program date.
A U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. or its territories.
A student in good standing at an undergraduate degree program who will not have graduated by the end of this REU program.
The program is a 10-week session starting in May until July. We recognize that some applicants may not have fully completed their spring term by our start date. If this is the case, please let us know and we will make every effort to accommodate you in our program. We have made this work for every such participant in the past-and there have been a good number of these cases.
All student participants who complete the 2025 program will receive a $6,800 REU stipend. The award also covers lodging on our campus for up to $2,240 for 70 days ($32/day rate), allowable travel expenses to get to and from the REU program, and provides a $1,400 living stipend.
