Who is in control of your emotions? You are!
This poster is from the curriculm Second Step, I know some of you know these skills. Students, please practice these skills if you are having a strong feeling.
Remember: Name your feeling because you have to know what you are feeling.
Then: use a coping or calm down skill like breathing.
If you can not think of a calm down/coping skill, try one of the ones in the picture above.
...try a Meta-Moment. Take some time to think
What happened?
How do I feel?
What do I need in this moment?
What skills do I know that can help me?
A small problem is a problem you can solve on your own or with other friends, normally you do not need a adult to help.
Remember, do not play the blame game. A problem is a NEED or a WANT. AVOID playing the blame game by saying what is the problem for YOU using "I statements..."
Which one of these sentances are playing the blame game?
I feel sad because I don't have anyone to play with.
I don't like them because they dont want to play with me.
Remember, a problem is a need or a want. What is the difference between a big problem and a small problem? Take a look at the picture to your left. What is a difference you notice?
How many can you guess?
