Savannah Cervantez

Elementary Music Director at Science Hall Elementary

Ms. Cervantez, known affectionately by her students as the Crazy Lady, is a native Austinite and has been teaching since 2013. Her bachelor's of Music Education choral emphasis, was earned from Texas State University in May of 2013.

She serves her musical community by directing the Hays CISD Honor Choir, working with the Victoria Community Theatre's Triple Threat Summer camp, and by being active as the Region 18 Elementary chair for TMEA, as well as a TMEA Mentorship Network Area Coordinator.

Outside of school, Ms. Cervantez enjoys reading, coffee, crafting, exercise, and spending time with her cat, Xochilinda.

Mattie Baker

Elementary Music Director at Cullen Elementary School

Mrs. Baker is the music teacher at Cullen Elementary and has been teaching Elementary Music since 2016. She received her Bachelors of Music Education (EC-12) from Southwestern University and taught in Georgetown, TX before coming to Kyle in 2023 with her husband and 3-year-old daughter.

In addition to directing the Cullen Cubs Choir, she serves the Austin community as a long-time member and flute/piccolo player for the Austin Civic Orchestra. Mrs. Baker is very excited to be sering her 3rd year as a HCISD Honor Choir co-director and elementary music teacher.

Outside of school, Mrs. Baker enjoys crafting, eating Italian or Mexican food, outdoor adventures, snuggling her two sassy schnauzers, and playing games with her family.

Dr. Dawn Marie Schafer

Elementary Music Director at Blanco Vista Elementary

Dr. Schafer is the music teacher at Blanco Vista Elementary and has been teaching vocal and instrumental music for 28 years. She received her Bachelor of Music Education (EC-12) from the Hartt School of Music, her Master's from Boston University, and her Doctorate from Liberty University - all in Music Education. She has taught in New Jersey, Georgia, and for the last 7 years in Texas.

In addition to directing the Wildcat Choir at BVES, she has been the Artistic Director of the Austin Children's Choir since 2023. In 2023-24 she was named Teacher of the Year at Sycamore Springs Middle School and in 2024 guest conducted the Georgia Sixth Grade Statewide Honor Chorus. This is Dr. Schafer's first season with the HCISD Honor Choir.

Outside of school, Dr. Schafer enjoys cooking and cycling. She has been married for 28 years and has 3 children aged 25, 23, and 21.
