It is just like it sounds - it is the social and emotional well-being of your student. The social part includes how they relate to others, themselves, and the world around them. The emotional part includes the thoughts and feelings associated with how they respond to all these things.
By nature, middle school is a very social and emotional part of the human life!
School counselors are especially equipped and trained to assist students with this part of their life.
Addressing the social and emotional parts of pre-teens and teens helps with students' overall well-being and success, both in and out of school. SEL helps students develop life skills they can use now and for the rest of their life, like self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. These skills have positive results on their academic performance, behavior, and encourage positive mental health and a healthy school climate.
