3rd Quarter
We will be involved with our Ball Handling Unit—which consists of our Basketball dribbling, passing, along with shooting skills. The students will have time to work on their skills and will be able work on all of their skills on the stations that we will provide.
Our next unit will be our Jump Rope Unit, and we will participate in the Kids Heart Challenge in the Month of February. All grades will participate and at the end of the challenge, the class that has raised the most money and the student the top 10 students that have raised to most money will be able to "SLIME" Mr. Blair and Mr. Welsh. Lastly, since the Olympics are taking place--we will spend time doing some Olympic theme games during PE classes and have some fun with the Olympics.
2nd Quarter
Grades K-5: Complete our Fitness Unit, Striking with Implement Unit and Begin our Ball Handling Skills Unit
Kindergarten: I can strike a lightweight object (e.g., beach ball or balloon) with a short-handled implement.
1st grade: I can strike a ball upward with a short-handled implement (grip - use shake-hand grip to hold the paddle/racket; bend knees - keep your knees slightly bent; firm wrist - wrist stays firm; strike - strike the ball upward and keep the paddle/racket in a flat position; flat paddle/racket - face of paddle/racket points to the sky/ceiling; strike - strike the ball upward in front of body).
2nd Grade: I can strike an object or ball forward with a long-handled implement while using proper grip for the implement.
3rd Grade: I can volley an object over a net, to a wall, or over a line to a partner/target with an underhand or sidearm striking pattern (face target in preparation for the volley; opposite foot forward; flat surface with hand for contact of the ball; contact with the ball between the knee and waist level; follow through upward and to the target).
4th Grade: I can strike an object with a short-handled implement alternating hits with a partner over a low net, line or against a wall.
5th Grade: I can strike an object consecutively over a net or against a wall using a short-handled implement with a partner (racket back in preparation for striking; step on opposite foot as contact is made; swing racket/paddle low to high, follow through for completion of the striking action; coil and uncoil the trunk for preparation and execution of the striking action; follow through for completion of the striking action).
1st Quarter
Grades K-5: Introduction to PE Specials, Personal and General Space Activities, and Soccer Activities including dribbling, trapping and kicking in a game.
Kindergarten: I can move safely in my own space and around others while participating in soccer activities.
1st grade: I can move safely around other players while playing soccer games.
2nd Grade: I can dribble my soccer ball in a way that gives others room to move.
3rd Grade: I can move and control the soccer ball while staying in my own personal space.
4th Grade: I can explain the difference between personal and general space and why both are important in the game of soccer.
5th Grade: I can recognize and use general space to avoid others and play safely during a soccer activity.
