Glazing Steps & Rules:

1. Sponge/rinse clay piece to get any dust/oils off.

2. Mark 1/4 of the bottom edge of the vessel.  Measure with the 1/4" guide bar and mark with pencil.  Do NOT glaze past the 1/4" mark bottom.

3. DO NOT glaze the bottom of the vessel or lid.

4. Glaze the INSIDE FIRST! For narrow neck vessels, pour the glaze, roll the vessel around to coat everywhere and pour glaze back into the container. (1 time)

5. For brushing, layer 3 or more coats of glaze. Combo glazes are typically 2 coats of one and 2 of the other. (Let glaze dry between coats!)

6. DO NOT MIX glazes!  Layer instead and let the glaze dry between layers!

7. Smooth surfaces look best with banding, dotting, drizzling, sponging because their isn't texture for the glaze to catch and pool (have cool combo reactions).

8. DO NOT pick up the glazes by the lid.

9. ALWAYS stir/shake the glaze before using. The good stuff settles on the bottom!

10. Glaze should look like a thick and creamy soup.  When you dip and lift your brush in the glaze, you should have a slow drizzle from the brush. Add tiny amount of water if too thick & stir with the wooden part of a brush.

11. Broken pieces glue after glaze firing.  DO NOT glaze seam where it will attach.

12. Sponge off any glaze on the bottom and turn in to the glaze cart!

• Make GLAZE TEST EXTRUDER TILE! 

• Later UPLOAD PHOTOS of glazed piece PRE & POST FIRING to Glaze Slideshow with your name & period.

• The glazes that I have are AMACO POTTER'S CHOICE & CELADONS.

• These glazes look best layered! Real photos and not stock photos are the most accurate.
