The TROC Library Collection

NOTE: We are currently in the middle of migrating our collection to a new catalog/ILS system. We are at 5,800 / 15,000 records. If you need help finding materials in our collection, please ask us at the information desk (Visser Hall 224), email troc@emporia.edu, or call 620-341-5292.

Tip for Searching the Catalog: Our catalog is specific to searching ONLY materials available in our location. We are currently migrating to a new integrated library system (and catalog) so that we can serve our patrons' needs more efficiently. This shift will allow us to create TTC categories, unique subject headings, and classify our materials in a unique way that fits out patrons needs perfectly. If you aren't finding what you are looking for, please contact us for assistance.

How Do I Find a Book?

Pardon our mess! We are in the early stages of a huge migration project digitally and physically. Not only are we reclassifying materials with a new system, we are also relocating them in a way that makes sense to our primary patrons. This means, you can find books in the following locations.

  • Fiction (easy chapters, YA fiction novels, etc.) is on the outer shelving area of the Collaborative Space (U-shaped shelving). Currently, these are classified by author's last name (kind of) but we will be moving these to more of a dynamic shelving system that is subject-based (think bookstore style).

  • Picture Books

    • Fiction Books are in the inside of the Collaborative Space. Fiction books are shelved by the author's last name.

    • Non-Fiction Books are currently shelved in the far north/west corner of the room. They are classified by dewey decimal. These books will be integrated into the rest of our non-fiction collection which is shelved throughout the room. We are relocating these materials so that our patrons (educators) can see supporting materials, kits, and games that match the theme of the picture books. We will reclassify these books by dewey with an emphasis on subject areas (e.g. 510 = math, 400 = reading comprehension)

  • Award Books Our collection includes books from a variety of awards. However, we display books for William Allen White Children's Book Award, Bill Martin Jr. Picture Book Award, Kansas Notable Book Award, Newbery Award Winner, and Caldecott Award Winner. We have additional award books housed within the picture book collection (in the Collaborative Space). Award books are primarily classified by award year.

  • Instructional Materials (includes research books, test prep materials, assessment kits, and more).
