Professional organizations are an essential part of the library and information world, as they foster a vibrant professional community, and are an excellent way for students to become connected with their professional peers. Membership in a professional organization allows you to enhance your professional skills after graduation, as the organizations offer multiple opportunities for continuing education through conferences and workshops. SLIM students are strongly encouraged to join both the appropriate national and regional organizations to support both their own growth and development and that of the library and information profession.
