Access to Karuizawa from Tokyo Airports

From Narita Airport (NRT)

 Option 1: Via Tokyo Station (Standard Route)

1. Take the Narita Express (N’EX) to Tokyo Station (~60 min).

2. Transfer to the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Karuizawa Station (~70–80 min).
     Fare: ~¥8,000
    Covered by JR Pass.

 Option 2: Via Ueno Station (Fast & Cheaper Option!)

1. Take the Keisei Skyliner to Keisei Ueno Station (~41 min).

2. Walk (~5 minutes) to JR Ueno Station.

3. Take the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Karuizawa Station (~65–75 min).

    Fare: approx. ¥6,500–7,000
     Total travel time: ~2 hours
    Japan Rail Pass does NOT cover the Skyliner.

 From Haneda Airport (HND)

  Option 1: Tokyo Monorail + JR Yamanote Line

1. Tokyo Monorail from Haneda Airport to Hamamatsucho Station (~20 min)

2. JR Yamanote Line from Hamamatsucho to Tokyo Station (~10 min)

3. Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Karuizawa Station (~70–80 min)

     Total fare: approx. ¥6,500
      Covered by JR Pass

 Option 2: Keikyu Line + Toei Asakusa Line + JR

1. Keikyu Airport Line to Sengakuji Station, continuing directly on the Toei Asakusa Line (~30 min)

2. Transfer at Shimbashi or Nihombashi to reach Tokyo Station (~5–10 min)

3. Hokuriku Shinkansen to Karuizawa

   Similar fare; fewer transfers if using IC card (Suica/PASMO)
    Partially covered by JR Pass depending on leg

 Option 3: Airport Limousine Bus to Tokyo Station

• Direct limousine bus from Haneda Airport to Tokyo Station Yaesu South Exit (~40–60 min depending on traffic)

• Walk to Shinkansen gate

• Take Hokuriku Shinkansen to Karuizawa

    Bus fare: ~¥1,200; total fare ~¥7,000
    Best with luggage / bad weather

Travel Tips

• Reserve Shinkansen seats in advance during peak seasons.

• All signage is available in English.

• IC cards (Suica/PASMO) are convenient for local trains.

• Luggage lockers are available at Karuizawa Station.
