Mr. Pickett is entering his seventh year as a band director and his second year at McMath Middle School. He serves as the conductor of the Symphonic Band, teaches beginning brass classes (trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba), and assists with all aspects of the McMath Tiger Band program.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Mr. Pickett earned both of his music degrees from the University of North Texas: a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2016 and a Master of Music in Horn Performance in 2023. During his time at UNT, he studied with distinguished faculty including Dr. Stacie Mickens, Professor Eugene Migliaro Corporon, Professor Dennis Fisher, and Dr. Nicholas Williams.
Before joining Denton ISD, Mr. Pickett taught band for three years in Waxahachie ISD and two years in Gainesville ISD. He also taught private horn lessons to middle and high school students in Denton ISD, Aubrey ISD, and Castleberry ISD.
In addition to teaching, Mr. Pickett remains an active horn performer. He has performed with several professional and community ensembles throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex and previously served as Principal Horn with the Carrollton Wind Symphony and NCTC Winds. During his time at the University of North Texas, he performed with the Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Concert Orchestra, the Green Brigade Marching Band, and the Funky Fresh Basketball and Volleyball Bands.
Outside the classroom, Mr. Pickett enjoys sports, movies, games, and spending time with family, friends, and his cat. A devoted sports fan, he cheers for the San Antonio Spurs, Texas Rangers, and Dallas Stars and is a season ticket holder for North Texas Mean Green football and basketball.
