I use a Love and Logic approach. I encourage the children to grow and learn from their own actions. To encourage appropriate behavior, learn self-control, and build self-concept, they will be guided to respect themselves and their peers. We work hard as a class to make our classroom a positive safe loving environment. Our classroom is a small community where teamwork and good relationships are expected and encouraged. We will spend time learning and practicing class procedures. If a student is having difficulties following these guidelines, I might:
*ask questions to promote thinking and responsibility
*encourage students to solve their own problems
*offer choices within limits
*model problem-solving skills
*apply rewards/consequences that best fit these situations
*Possible consequences might include change seating, separation from group activity, partial loss of recess, a “think time,” communication home, or a visit to the office.
*In the event that your child’s behavior is interfering with his or her learning or the learning of others, you will be notified via SeeSaw or by phone.
Our class rules are simple and easy to follow:
· Listen to the teacher and follow directions at all times.
· Use quiet, inside voices in the classroom.
· Take turns listening and speaking; raise your hand to speak during group time.
· Clean up after yourself!!
· No running in the classroom or the school building.
· Be a good friend.
In addition, Adkins Elementary enforces the following:
· Following directions given by any school staff or listed in the handbook.
· Do nothing to hurt people or property.
· Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
· Cursing and name-calling are unacceptable.
· Do nothing to disrupt class or other school activities.
Consequences in our classroom for choosing NOT to follow the rules:
Your child may loose Class Dojo Points for their behavior.
Your child may be asked to take a break in another teacher's classroom to work in a fresh environment with someone different.
Your child may be asked to complete their Must Do during their Can Do time.
Your child may be asked to walk some laps on our Thinking Track during recess to think about their choices during instruction time.
Your child may need to take a break in the office with an administrator/counselor to think about their choices during instruction time or to complete Must Do assignments.
*It is very important to us that all students feel respected in the classroom. If your child is struggling with negative feelings towards or from a classmate, teacher, or anyone involved in our day, please encourage them to make the teacher aware of the situation promptly. If you prefer to let the teacher know of the situation privately, please call or email. We spend a large part of our days together, and it is our goal that each person is comfortable in our surroundings. We believe this mutual respect makes for a productive learning environment. Thank you.
Our class discipline is easy! Work hard and be respectful.
