It is my philosophy that education is a lifelong process that occurs day in and day out, inside and outside of the classroom. When students enter the classroom they bring unique life experiences that affect how they learn. Experiences that students have within the classroom subsequently accompany the student as they navigate their life outside of school. As a teacher in the Middle Years International Baccalaureate Program, it is my job to acknowledge the individuality of each student; help them to connect their learning and experiences to their immediate world, as well as the global world; and finally, guide them in how to communicate their knowledge and ideas for the betterment of society.
As a Design teacher here at Calhoun Middle School, my students have the opportunity to explore a variety of topics through in-depth projects. These projects not only connect students to technology but also through technology to each other and the world around them. It is my goal that students who participate in my classes will be able to apply what they learn over a broad range of subjects, both inside and outside of the classroom. I hope that they will use the skills in both their personal lives and the academic realm.
