Volunteers
Anyone who is volunteering to assist our teachers and programs is required to fill out a DISD volunteer application
and pass a background check. All volunteers must reapply each school year. Each volunteer background check takes 10-15 days to process. Denton ISD is required by state law to obtain background record information on all applicants for employment, as well as student teachers, student observers, volunteers, etc. (Texas Education Code Section 22.083)
Examples of volunteer situations include – but are not limited to – chaperoning field trips, assisting with supervision of students on overnight trips, assisting with equipment, hosting events, uniform, costume, or equipment management, inventory, or record keeping. Many of these examples involve having access to some sort of student information and working with students.
Volunteers are also strongly encouraged to log their volunteer hours online
