Dessert (independent-choice) Books are encouraged to be checked out from our amazing library. These type books make Mrs. Hall happy to see you have that desire to READ something, but these type of books are NOT TO BE READ during ELAR...Mrs. Hall will love that you are reading, but Dessert books can be read outside of Mrs. Hall's classroom. Mrs. Hall was hired to improve your comprehension, not to entertain you; or allow continued, stagnant reading.
Stagnant reading will be prohibited, and could result in major consequences.
Course Policies and Guidelines:
Student Work: Students will complete assignments as assigned. Students will use complete sentences, proper grammar, and correct spelling in every assignment. If students have difficulty with spelling, they are welcome to use a paper dictionary for help, and at times their chrome book. Students will consult with their writing partners/groups for inspiration and will work collaboratively and kindly to edit and revise and will become proficient at editing and revising on their own. Students will complete reading assignments as scheduled, including the completion of “two-column notes.”
Please expect FINAL essays will (at times) be completed *handwritten, and completed *within class time. *This allows for zero assistance from Google/A-I/peers/parents/older siblings/guidance counselors/youth leaders/coaches/tutors/grandmas/aunts/neighbors/you get my point...and Mrs. Hall will get to see 100% what your brain can write.
Absences: If a student is absent, it is his/her/their responsibility to attend tutorials within one week of the absence to complete the missed assignment. The missed assignment will be recorded as a zero until completed, labeled as "MSG" in grading system=HAC. If you want the MSG (0%) removed, do the work you missed in a timely manner, and IMPORTANT, let Mrs. Hall know the assignment as been completed by communicating verbally in class, tutorials, or through email.
Late Work: Most assignments are to be completed and are due during class. Mrs. Hall rarely assigns homework...if the student has "homework" it is because the student did not complete the work during time allotted in class. Any work turned in late, consequences will occur if the procrastination becomes an issue, and prohibits learning.
Grade Monitoring: Parents and students must regularly check their grade via Home Access Center for DentonISD aka HAC. There are benefits to keeping a 90% or higher overall average in Mrs. Hall's class. Please see the "90% Club" for more info.
