guyer Dual Credit
2024-2025
what is the difference between Advanced placement (Ap) and dual credit?
Both AP and dual credit offer opportunities for gaining college credit. Earning college credit from an AP course is dependent upon a student’s score on an AP exam at the end of the course. Typically, a 3, 4 or 5 on an AP exam will earn college credit, in state or out of state as AP is nationally recognized. Each school will determine which score is required to award credit. Dual Credit has the potential to earn college credit with a passing grade. Any public university/college in Texas will accept dual credit. Depending on the major of the student, it may count as elective credit. Outside the state of Texas, dual credit may not be recognized.
How do you know if dual credit is a good fit for you?
Work backwards! If students have schools in mind that they are interested in attending, see if dual credit will transfer to those schools. This can simply be done by accessing the transfer equivalency website for a school or by calling the office of admissions. Working backwards will ensure that students are taking dual credit courses that will earn college credit for schools they plan to attend.
dual credit transferability
Core curriculum fully transferable to Texas Public Universities.
Check www.TCCNS.ORG (Texas Common Core Numbering System) for transferability in Texas.
*It is students’ responsibility to verify transfer credits to receiving institution.
