COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Creative Writing allows students to demonstrate their skills in a variety of writing forms and develop versatility as a writer. Students will engage in the recursive nature of the writing process and continue to apply conventions of usage and mechanics of written English. Throughout this course, students will evaluate their own writing and the writing of others to ensure that three goals of the course are achieved: 1) students can analyze and discuss published and unpublished works, 2) students can develop peer and self-assessments for effective writing, and 3) students can set their own goals as writers.
SUPPLIES:
Something to write with (pencil or pen with blue/black black ink)
Something to write on (composition, Spiral or three-ring binder with paper)
ONE of the following: Kleenex, Copy Paper or Lysol Spray.
ONE Composition Notebook 70-100 pages
ASSESSMENT:
Students will show their mastery of foundational elements, and receive both feedback to advance understanding and a grade for the following: Daily Journal Entries (connected to fun facts or historical dates), Writing Exercises and Writing Practice. Major grades will come from applying knowledge of editing and revision to improve and update writing, including 100-word stories and other short formats.
