UNIT 2: 

How Are We Connected to Others? Families & Communities 

The students are learning about their families, friends, and communities. They will identify the characteristics that define each group and learn how to communicate the differences between them. 

SEPTEMBER

UNIT 1: What Makes me Unique?

Students write an autobiography in Spanish. Using vocabulary learned in class — along with helpful cognates — they are sharing insights into a persons life, including:

• name, last name, origin

• Favorites in life

• Future profesion/job plans

This project helps students connect language learning to real-life expression.

*** To prevent sharing personal information, the students adopted a character from a Hispanic culture and developed their presentation based on it.

AUG-SEPT

UNIT 1: What Makes me Unique?

Greetings and Farewells

Students are learning how to start a conversation in Spanish by introducing themselves and sharing basic information. They practice talking about:

• Their name, age, and birthday

• Where they’re from and what they do

• Their favorites in life — from food and classes to friends, sports, TV shows, teachers, and more!

AUGUST

SPANISH LANGUAGE IMMERSION

The Spanish Alphabet and phonetics

Nothing builds confidence in learning a new language like being able to use it without fear. That’s why, during the first weeks of school, our focus is on practicing and mastering Spanish pronunciation.

Through fun and interactive activities — like singing along to catchy songs, spelling out loud, and recording their own voices — students begin to feel comfortable using Spanish from day one. This foundation sets the stage for everything we’ll do throughout the year.
