Parent Support
Parents,
I understand that you have your hands full! You may be working from home, keeping kids entertained & fed, and worrying during these uncertain times. You and your families' physical and mental well-being are the most important thing right how. Denton ISD, Hodge Elementary, and myself want to offer you all the support you need without adding something else to your never ending list of responsibilities. Your child will easily maintain their current reading achievement if they spend a little time reading and writing each day. Here are some suggestions for minimal practice:
Read any books you child may brought home in their book bag. There are many positive impacts from reading familiar books (even if mom and dad are TIRED of hearing them.
Listen to stories read aloud--read to your kiddos, let them listen to stories online (see link to Tumble Books above), or let them listen to an older sibling.
Write a little each day. This could be as simple as writing a grocery list or a involved as creating a book about something that interests your child.
Practice any sight words lists or cards you child has in his/her homework or book bag.
Do any of the activities suggested by Hodge 1st Grade Teachers (see link above).
IF you would like more things to do with your child, please email me, Colleen Moore, at cmoore2@dentonisd.org or have your child join my office hours for a live video lesson. I would be trilled to provide more specific and detailed reading practice for your child.
