Tests:
Spelling tests will be online via ASW Spelling Programs. All other tests will be provided by UIL, specifically the Set A materials. We will be administering the Computer Science Written test and Computer Science Practical. The Computer Science Practical will be run through the program NetBeans (please see more info below).
Large School/Small School Categories:
We will have large and small school categories for all academic events. 1-4A will go into the Small School Categories, and 5A-6A will compete in Large School.
Judges/Graders:
Schools must provide judges for all events. The key to a well-run tournament is having enough judges and graders so that everything moves efficiently. Please ensure you bring your judges and they are aware of the times they are expected to be somewhere. At check in, we will tell you the locations of judging/grading rooms for each event.
Computers:
Journalism/Ready Writing - Access to Dell Desktop Computers with printer access will be provided to those competing in the written events (Feature Writing, Editorial Writing, News Writing, and Ready Writing). The rules governing laptop/computer use can be found here. Students may either use google docs or they may use Microsoft Word (if using Microsoft Word, your school district's student email logins should have Microsoft Office licenses assigned to them, our generic logins will NOT have Mcrosoft Office licenses).
Computer Science - Contestants will be using the NetBeans compiler on desktop computers to create code and will submit the code on USB flash drives. Contestants must bring at least one flash drive. Two flash drives are recommended. There should be four contestants. They must all take the written test but only three contestants can compete in the programming test.
Spelling - The Spelling contest will be administered online via ASW Spelling Programs. We will provide a computer lab for the contest. Please have students bring wired earbuds/headphones to connect to the desktop (bluetooth will not work). We will have a *limited* number of earbuds/headphones available in case a student forgets, but it will be first come, first served.
Medals and Tests:
Medals for academic events will be handed out directly after grading is complete in the Commons (Cafeteria area). This is to ensure that students/coaches do not need to stay until the end of the tournament for an award ceremony. We will have Sweepstakes awards to hand out at the end of the tournament. Completed contests will be given to the schools at the end of each day. Awards not picked up at the announcement will be distributed to schools in their take home bags generously provided by HEB.
Hospitality
Get ready to enjoy a warm welcome! We’ll have freshly brewed coffee, an assortment of cookies, fruits, and snacks to keep you energized. Savor some chips and queso, and for a heartier option, we’ll have everything you need to make delicious sandwiches. We’ve got your cravings covered!
Tab Room:
Tab will be in the Student Center (located in the main hallway, on the right side (from the main entrance) before you get to the Commons/Cafeteria) if you have any questions or concerns throughout the day.
Payments:
Please have payment within one month of our tournament end. An invoice will be emailed to you within a few days of registering for the invitational.
