Class overview
This course is the final and most advanced class at the Middle School Level. It is intended to allow interested students to continue their exploration of studio art, and prepare them for visual arts at the high school level. We will utilize various materials and methods for creating artworks as students explore the “Big Ideas” of Identity, Story, and Expression.
• We will continue to expand on foundations of observation and perception.
• We will build students capacity for creative expression.
• We will seek to enhance understanding of historical and cultural relevance, as they relate to art and art making.
• We will grow students’ abilities in critical evaluation and response.
The class will focus on building students’ skills and understandings in these areas. We will also work to equip students to engage in critical analysis of artworks for the purpose of building critical thinking abilities, visual literacy, and conceptual competence.
More information about student responsibilities and expectations as well as guides and procedures can be found on the Students' Stuff Page.
