The Primary Numeracy Assessment is a tool that builds a cognitive profile for a students’ mathematical thinking. The assessment does more than measure the number of correct versus not correct answers to assign a score. It also measures the level of thinking that the student used to solve each problem. After the assessment is given, the teacher records the baseline result on a progress monitoring sheet. All intervention decisions will be referenced from the data.
In Denton ISD, students in Kindergarten- 2nd grade are given a Primary Numeracy Assessment (PNA) three times throughout the school year to measure student growth over time:
Beginning of the Year
Middle of the Year
End of the Year
