The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) program includes annual assessments in reading and mathematics for students in grades 3–8. Other grade-specific STAAR tests include science for grades 5 and 8, and social studies for grade 8.
Beginning with the 2021-2022 school year, the writing assessments for grades 4 and 7 will be eliminated as a "stand-alone" test.
