What is Guided Reading?
Your child will have Guided Reading this year. Guided Reading is a small group, teacher-directed process that helps the children to develop the reading strategies they need to become independent readers. Many times, the teacher will encourage the student to identify deeper concepts of the book, such as story elements, characters, problem and solution, and more! You will begin to see a book bag coming home in your childś backpack. In this bag, you will see books or letter/sound Identification activities that were practiced in their group that day. Please listen to your child read or practice the letter/sound activity with them, return the book to the book bag and send back to school the next day. We can wait to see them glow!!!
Student SSO Portal
Every day, your child will be using technology in the classroom via Chromebooks. In class, the students are using QR codes to access their single sign on portal (SSO). If you would like your child to show you how they use this portal for their learning, then they can go to their portal at home! Use the link below to access the link. You will need their username ID number and the password 126.abcd to log on. Students access iReady Math and Reading, Lexia Core 5 (Username- ID# and Password- ID#), Starfall, and Tumblebooks to name a few! Enjoy!
Just a few things.....
Family Lunch Visits- Our campus is now open for families to come and eat lunch with your child. You can bring lunch for your child or have them eat the cafeteria lunch during our lunch from 10:40-11:10. Tables are set up outside the cafeteria for you and your child enjoy a lunch visit. We don't recommend coming to eat with your child everyday, as we want them to build independence in the lunch room. You do not need to notify your child's teacher for these lunch visits. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher.
Lunch Accounts- If your child is buying their lunch in the cafeteria, you will need to make sure that your child has sufficient funds on their account. You can find this link at the bottom of this newsletter in our "Important Links" sections. The account also allows you to set up restrictions for your child, such as buying an extra snack on certain days from the snack cart at checkout.
Snack and Water Bottles- Thank you for sending a simple, easy snack with your child every day. We will not supply forks, spoons, straws etc. Snack time is only 5-7 minutes, so please plan accordingly when packing this quick, simple snack. Also, please pack a filled water bottle in your child's backpack every day.
Toys from Home- please talk with your child about leaving any personal toys at home. If your child is bringing toys/ costume jewelry from home, it becomes a distraction to classwork when they try to take them out of their backpack during instruction time. Thank you for monitoring their backpack for strays... lol!
Thank you!
