Listed below are the Learning Targets for the First 9 Weeks (9W1)

We will be working on these targets throughout the 9 weeks in our student workshops: large and small groups.

Math

Students will:

• count objects to 5.

• read, write and show whole numbers from 0-5 with and without objects.

• compose and decompose numbers up to 5 with objects and pictures. 

• use appropriate problem solving processes to come to logical solutions

Reading

Students will :

• recognize words are represented by print.

• demonstrate one to one correspondence between spoken words and printed words.

• recognize the difference between a letter and word.

• hold a book correctly. 

• read top to bottom and left to right.

• identify the parts of a book. (title, front, back)

• identify capital and lower case letters. 

• identify the common sounds letters represents. 

• identify and read snap words.

Writing 

Students will:

• write their name.

• write capital and lower-case letters, left to right, and top to bottom.

• try to write the sounds they hear in words.

• label pictures.

• encourage writing of any kind.  (scribbling, letter like forms, random letter strings, or phonetic spelling)

Science

Students will: 

• observe properties of objects, including bigger or smaller and heavier or lighter, shape, color, and texture. 

• record properties accurately. 

• communicate about the properties of matter using science vocabulary. 

• observe and describe weather changes from day to day and over seasons. 

• observe using five senses. 

• explore different things in the natural world and use tools to help investigate.

• observe and record properties of objects including relative size and mass. (bigger or smaller, heavier or lighter, shape, color, & texture.) 

Social Studies

Students will:

• identify community helpers.

• identify a purpose for having rules and why they keep us safe.

• identify authority figures and explain how they make and enforce rules.

• explain why we celebrate the US Constitution. 

Health

Students will: 

• practice health habits that help individuals stay healthy like cleaning hands and proper amounts of sleep.

• identify types of exercise and active types play that are good for the body.
