Curriculum
Reading, Writing, Grammar
Reading: This week readers will think about the choices authors make (and the ones they don't) as a way to come to new insights as readers. They will look at different techniques such as dialogue, building suspense and point of view and analyze why an author may have included this technique to enhance this part in the story. This week we are also starting reading strategy groups and book clubs in reading workshop.
Writing: Students are working through the writing process to develop a final draft of a literary essay, focusing on forming introduction and conclusion paragraphs.
Grammar: This week students begin learning about using because to show cause and effect as a coordinating conjunction.
Math, Science, Social Studies
Math: We are reviewing all four operations through word problems in preparation for our report card assessment next week.
Science: This week begin a new lesson over particles of matter, particularly how the particles of the three states of matter (solid, liquid, gas) compare to one another (5.6D)
Social Studies: Lesson 5- Routes of Exploration to the Americas. What were the effects of European Exploration in the Americas?
