Curriculum
STAAR Test Prep Week 1
Reading: When readers think about the characters, setting, conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution, readers can see how all the pieces fit together.
Writing: Students will compose informational texts, including brief compositions that convey information about a topic, using a clear central idea and genre characteristics and craft.
Grammar: Students are reviewing adverbs and capitalization.
Math, Science, Social Studies
Math: Your child is about to explore graphing in the first quadrant. To master this skill, they will build on their knowledge of graphing on number lines from fourth grade. In fourth grade, your child learned to graph fractions and decimals to the tenths and hundredths as distances from 0 on a number line. As your child extends their
knowledge of this concept throughout fifth grade, they will learn the following concepts:
Describe key attributes of the coordinate plane
The x-axis runs horizontally, and the y-axis runs vertically. Both axes are number lines, in this case with a scaled interval of one.
An ordered pair (x, y) provides the location for a specific point. The first number within the ordered pair tells how far the point is located along the x-axis, and the second number tells how far the point is located along the y-axis.
The origin is the point where both axes intersect, at (0, 0).
Science: This week we wrap up our "Earths Rotation" unit and being our new unit of weather and the water cycle.
Social Studies: We will wrap up our unit on Westward Expansion: Manifest Destiny and the effects it had on different groups of people in America at the time.
