Read-A-Thon

Curriculum
Reading, Writing, Grammar
Reading: This week students are learning about text structure, central idea and supporting details as we learn how to summarize a nonfiction text.
Writing: Students have been working hard writing about various topics they know a lot about. This week, students are going to start learning the writing process for a chapter book, starting with creating a Table of Contents!
Grammar: This week students will continue learning about AAAWWUBBIS, an acronym for a set of words that are used to create complex sentences by starting a sentence with a dependent clause: after, as, although, while, when, unless, until, because, before, if, and since.
Math, Science, Social Studies
Math: Students will be practicing GEMDAS/PEMDAS that now includes adding, subtractiong, multiplying and dividing decimals. We will complete this week reviewing all operations for rational numbers.
Science: This week you student will be wrapping up the 5.8 Energy Unit. They have learned about light energy and all of its properties, such as absorption, reflection, refraction, etc. Students will complete their Unit Assessment this week.
Social Studies: Students will be completing their completing their American Revolution Unit this week. We will discuss the Second Continental Congress and the creation of the Declaration of Independence. Finally, students will complete their report card assessment for the entire American Revolution Unit.
