Chocolate sales closed October 11th! If you have a box out still, money was due before the end of the school day on Oct 4th. We have about 10 boxes left to sell to reach our goal! Please let your homeroom teacher know if you would like another box.

Curriculum
Reading, Writing, Grammar
Reading: This week students will show what all they have learned about central idea and topic on our first CFA for this unit. We will begin learning about text features and text structure and how they support the central idea.
To continue working on all of our amazing progress in fiction over the past nine weeks, each homeroom has chosen a fiction novel to read during read aloud.
Writing: For the next 2 1/2 weeks, students will begin to write a short informational book, and spend the following days using various strategies to revise that book. We will teach strategies such as elaborating and adding specific details.
Grammar: This week students will continue learning about AAAWWUBBIS, an acronym for a set of words that are used to create complex sentences by starting a sentence with a dependent clause: after, as, although, while, when, unless, until, because, before, if, and since.
Math, Science, Social Studies
Math: This week started our TEKS 5.2 ABC, 5.3 ADEFGK, and 5.4 F Decimal Operation unit! The focus of this unit is on place value of and operations with decimals to the thousandths place. The student will be responsible for identifying the place value of decimals, comparing and ordering decimals, and rounding decimals to the tenths and hundredths place. The student will represent the multiplication and division of decimals using objects and pictorial models, as well as, solving for the product and quotient of decimals to the hundredths place. The student will continue to work on simplifying expressions that now include decimal numbers. This unit will last 6 weeks.
Science: Your child is now beginning TEKS 5.8, “Energy." This week, we will be learning about light energy and all of its properties, such as absorption, reflection, refraction, etc. By the end of this unit, students will be able to identify different forms of energy, what everyday items produce what forms of energy, and how energy can be transformed from one form to another.
Social Studies: Students are learning about the tensions that grew between the colonies and the British government. During this tension, many colonist had to make a decision to be loyal to Great Britain or Patriotic to the colonies.
