Flexible Learning Opportunities (FLOs)

Flexible Learning Opportunities (FLOs)

Two Minimum Every Nine Weeks

Every Nine Weeks, each student will have several unique opportunities to enhance their learning through an array of challenges. Students are asked to complete two every nine weeks, but with no limit on how many they may do.

These opportunities have included trips to UT Arlington's Planetarium, listening to and reflecting on Sam Harris podcasts, viewing and sharing knowledge from live, online NASA lectures, writing chapter reflections based on Bill Bryson's book, A Short History of Nearly Everything, involvement in community events, star parties, and festivals, participating in Twitter chats, observing celestial events such as lunar eclipses and meteor showers, documenting their efforts in lessening their negative impact on the environment, and presenting special topics, such as a current world event or an Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD), to their peers in class.

Flex opportunities have been a favorite among students over the years! Some have even created their own opportunities in order to explore their personal interests in the field of earth science and environmentalism!
