RE: First Day of School and 7th/8th Grade Band Syllabus
Dear All Incoming 7th and 8th Grade Band Members,
Welcome back to Spring Branch Middle School and what promises to be a very exciting year for you. The Band Department at Spring Branch Middle School would again, like to officially welcome you back to SBMS. Enclosed in this correspondence is information regarding first day procedures regarding band and what the expectations will be for the 2021-2022 academic year. Hopefully, this will answer any questions you might have about the first week of school and what can be expected as it pertains to band. Also included is a class syllabus which details expectations, and grading.
Enclosed in this packet you will find the following:
Syllabus/Handbook
Supply List for 7th and 8th Grade Band
An important thought to remember about the SBMS Band program: While we, as your child’s teachers do expect quality work and 100% commitment to our scheduled band activities, we completely understand students have additional obligations, commitments as well as being members of other organizations and clubs here on campus and in the community. We also understand each student is a unique individual and no one situation is completely identical. Because of this, we will handle all conflicts (including but not limited to: Sectional Attendance, Concert/ Performance Attendance, Financial Obligations) and concerns on an individual basis. We do kindly ask that you as parents keep the band staff informed and encourage your child to communicate concerns with us as well. We want to create an environment where our students feel comfortable communicating with adults and voicing their concerns. Please understand that we are willing to work as best we can to find resolutions to any situation that may be counter-productive to your child’s band endeavors.
Instruments
· Any student needing to rent a school owned instrument may do so during the first week of school. Rental agreements will be sent home along with instruments. Once instruments have been distributed, we will evaluate inventory and supply “at-home” instruments based upon remaining inventory.
· Students will not need their instruments on the first day of classes but should bring them on Wednesday, August 24th. We will start playing on Wednesday.
Sincerely,
Cody Richardson and Austin Vogelman
