Concerts and Performances are a vital aspect of any band program. We will do everything we can to notify you as far in advance as possible. If you know you are going to miss a performance of any kind, please let a director know ASAP. The sooner we know, the sooner we can create an alternative assignment and prepare for the absence within the band. We will handle each absence on a case-by-case basis. Directors reserve the right to deny accommodations and grade the absence per our syllabus guidelines. Note: performances are entered as a major grade. Dates for all performances can be found HERE.
For most of our performances/concerts, students will need to wear "Concert Black". Concert Black (aka our concert uniform) is formal attire that will be provided by the school. There will some concerts where students will be asked to wear their band shirt and nice jeans.
You are responsible for providing the following:
Boys: Black Socks, Black Dress Shoes, and a Black Belt.
Girls: Black Dress Shoes and Black Socks.
Everyone will be distributed a Concert Black Uniform at the start of the school year. It will be your responsibility to hem and press pant legs/ dress length to the appropriate length. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions HERE.
If your instrument stops working, here is what you can do. If you have a school-owned instrument, we can send it off to be repaired by one of our vendors. If damages to one of our instruments are reoccurring due to neglect or failure to follow instrument safety procedures, we reserve the right to have you send the instrument off to a repair store to be fixed. Safety procedures will be thoroughly taught and reviewed at the start of the school year (even before students are allowed to take their instruments home).
If you are renting your instrument on your own or personally own your instrument, you will be responsible for taking the instrument to a local repair store. Local repair stores and contact info can be found HERE. Assignments that are missed due to an instrument being repaired will have to be made up, however, it will not impact your weekly grade.
Note: There are some things that Mr. Richardson or Mr. Vogelman MIGHT be able to fix depending on the problem. If we cannot fix it, you will have to follow the aforementioned procedures. Basically, try us first.
Good question! The best thing you can do is play your instrument for a little bit outside of class, everyday. We will always be able to give you something to work on. Fundamentals may not always be the most fun thing, but if they are practiced, they will do wonders for your growth and success on your instrument. Please check the home page for playing assignments that are coming your way.
