Blood pressure is the measure of force that the heart uses to pump blood around the body.
Blood pressure readings are made up of two numbers often referred to as one number “over” another. Normal blood pressure is around 120 over 80 (120/80) but normal can range from 100/60 to 140/90.
Systolic Pressure - the top number is a measure of the pressure in the large blood vessels (arteries) during a heart contraction.
Diastolic - the bottom number refers to the pressure when the heart is at rest, between heart beats.
