The Bayport-Blue Point Gifted and Talented Program is designed to nurture the unique talents and abilities of our exceptional students and is dedicated to fostering a stimulating and challenging learning environment that provides an enriched educational experience for gifted learners.

Definition of Giftedness

The term gifted and talented refers to students who show evidence of superior intellectual ability and potential in specific academic domains and demonstrate abilities such as leadership, creativity, problem solving, and critical thinking.  These children require additional academic services provided along with their regular classroom environment.

About The Program:

The Gifted and Talented Program is a district wide program for select students in grades 4 and 5.  The program strives to challenge these unique learners in a creative and enriching fashion, while promoting higher order thinking and enhancing opportunities for lifelong learning. The students will be exploring many engaging topics throughout the year designed to encourage fluent, flexible thinking and fostering creative problem solving and leadership skills.

About Your Teacher:

Hello!  My name is Ellen Vlachos.  I am currently the Gifted and Talented teacher for the Bayport-Blue Point School District.  I am happy to have the opportunity to work with your children in this wonderful program.  I have been fortunate to have worked in the Bayport-Blue Point school district in this position for the past eight years. I have also worked in various positions throughout the district over the past ten years including Virtual 2nd grade,  Resource Room, AIS Reading & Math and various elementary leave replacement positions.  Prior to my time here, I taught 6th grade science including the gifted program for eight years in another district on Long Island.  This year I will continue to be the Library Media Specialist at Blue Point Elementary School in addition to my role as the Gifted and Talented teacher for the district.  I look forward to an exciting year ahead filled with the fun and challenge of learning.
