The state requirement is that you must have at least a 95% attendance record overall for grades 9-12.
So what does this mean?
Every single minute counts towards your attendance from your first day of freshman year to the last day of your senior year. By the time that you get to the last day of your senior year, your attendance average must be 95 percent or greater.
What counts against your attendance?
Any absences, being late, and truancies count against your attendance. This includes doctor's appointments as well.
Does a doctor's note excuse my attendance?
A doctor's note does not excuse the time missed when it comes to your attendance time.
At what point would I be disqualified based on attendance?
When a full-time student* has missed 210 hours or more, it is impossible to have a 95% cumulative attendance rate by the last day of your senior year.
*A student that is part-time, in CAPs, Dual-enrolled, or a Lewis & Clark student, your off-campus time limits you to a lower threshold and varies based on a student's schedule.
Can my attendance be appealed?
If you miss due to a Major Medical Illness* that prevents you from being at school, you can appeal to earn that time back. Some examples would include surgery or hospitalization due to a severe injury or illness.
This does not include Orthodontics appointments, physicals, or doctor visits for minor illnesses like a cold.
*There are two exceptions that have been adopted: Brievance for close family members and wedding ceremonies for close family members.
What do I need to do to appeal for attendance for a major medical illness?
You need to provide medical documentation for the date(s) that were missed.
You need to complete an appeal form (click here) that explains the absence and date(s) missed. (You can also get a paper copy from the A+ office)
You need to submit the appeal form and doctor's note no later than the last school day in March. Ex: March 31, 2026.
The appeal documentation will be presented to an appeal team. That team will assess the appeals and determine what time will be accepted. The time that is accepted will be given to the A+ office and added back into the student's attendance.
