Partnerships are the pivotal element of what makes the Memorial Park Middle School STEAM program grounded in authenticity. Through diverse project based learning experiences, our students are not only learning content, but also master through application soft skills which prepare them for their future career and/or college ambitions. Embedded in these experiences are authentic learning opportunities to explore potential careers and determine their future aspirations. Career explorations such as participation in career panels, field trips to local employers, Career Pipeline speakers, JA Job Spark, and authentic PBL products which are presented to community partners are just a few of the ways that students are exposed to potential careers. In collaboration with the Fort Wayne Community Schools College and Career Readiness Student Advisor, we are able to arrange for under-represented students to experience career and college field trips throughout the school year and beyond. Employing STEAM career explorations, community partnerships, extended learning opportunities, and targeted programming, we are able to provide the students at Memorial Park Middle School with a truly well rounded STEAM experience.
A STEAM Advisory Board is established consisting of at least three local STEAM community partners, from different sectors, that provide feedback on the school's STEAM program. The board member feedback has guided program growth over the years.
Local community partners are actively engaged in the STEM program. We are excited to have so much support from our community within PBLs and other supports of our program. We have strong relationships with local planning professionals, the FW Art Museum, Sweetwater Sound, and other companies. Fort Wayne is not short of folks in the community willing to support our students!
Our STEAM Team strives to ensure equitable access to STEAM experiences for all populations within our building. Specific emphasis is given to inspiring and informing our African American, Latino, and students with special needs populations.
