IMYC is a curriculum written in the UK, but used in schools all over the world. It develops conceptual learning with local knowledge or skills. We find the structure of this curriculum fantastic to help draw together the different subject areas.
The International Middle years curriculum
We follow the Swedish National Curriculum and in addition we also utilize the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC). With the IMYC, students are developing and strengthening their skills as well as their knowledge and deeper understandings while broadening their world-wide perspective.
What is IMYC?
An international curriculum that is specially designed around the needs of the young brain. At Futuraskolan we use this.
IMYC is organized in different themed units, where each unit has an overarching thought, the big idea.
Why IMYC?
Teen brains are at a stage where they need to:
Take risks and challenge
Be active
Be rewarded
Collaborate and interact with their classmates
Make connections and associations
Create meaning and wholeness
Some examples of IMYC Units studied at our school. All are concept based and help our students connect their learning from all subjects.
