Referrals and consequences

I do not like giving referrals. At the same time, I there are some behaviors that are so obviously disrespectful, that I automatically give a referral to any student who chooses to engage in them.  The list below is not all inclusive and students may get a referral for other reasons. 

Students will automatically receive a referral for any of the following behaviors. 

• • Disrupting the class in any way without cause

  • Using another student’s computer without permission

  • Eating in my class

  • Destroying or damaging any school property

  • Invading the teacher’s space

  • Being too casual with the teacher or a student

  • Unprofessional language or behavior or encouraging another student to engage in such behavior 

  • Wandering

What are the consequences for a referral?

• First Offence: Referral with conference with teacher.

• Second Offence: Referral with conference and apology letter.

• Third Offence: Referral with conference, apology letter, and a call home.

• Fourth Offence: Conference with parents. 

• They also lose a point towards their digital citizenship grade if they get four referrals in one trimester
