About The Class
Most children, and many teenagers, view the computer as a toy. The intent of my instruction in the computer lab is to help my students learn how to use the computer as tool. By the time your students leave Maloney they will be able to touch type more than 20 wpm, they will have strong foundation in word processing, creating slideshows, or working with spreadsheets. They will also have a basic knowledge of web design, graphic design, and coding logic.
Your students will work on the following assignments during their first grade year:
Word Processing: Students will learn how to edit documents focusing on spelling, spacing, formatting text (bold, caps lock, italics, center alignment, colors), and line spacing
Slide Shows: Students will make two basic slideshows highlighting different the months of the year and a second slideshow in which they will complete a story.
Google Drawing: Students will use shapes to draw two images digitally including a train and a rabbit.
Keyboarding: Second graders will continue learning how to type using BBC Dance Mat Typing. The goal is for them to be able to type without looking at the keyboard.
Internet Skills: Students will start working with websites to find information
Code.org: Students will continue working on block coding during the second half of the year.
Digital Citizenship: We will complete several assignments designed by Common Sense Media
