Art 1 is an introductory studio art course for 9th through 12th graders designed to expose students to different forms and elements of art. Students will learn about art history, vocabulary, methods, materials, tools, procedures, maintenance, and norms related to art. Students will be expected to always participate and meet all deadlines.
Mrs. Servanda
Art 2 and 3 is an advanced studio course for students who have completed Art 1 with a C or better. It is designed around projects involving the principles and elements of art, to further the students understanding of these areas. Students enrolled in this class should understand and feel comfortable with:
a. How to use oil pastels, pastels & paint.
b. Perspective (2 point & 1 point)
c. Use of a color wheel & theory
d. Shading (in color & black and white)
e. Drawing
f. Understand how to use the elements and principles of art in their artwork.
g. Creating original designs and compositions.
Mrs. Servanda
AP Drawing & AP 2-D is an advanced studio art class or a low-level college art class where the objective of the course is to prepare and create artwork for the AP Portfolio due in May.
Because of the nature of the portfolio, students will mostly work individually on their sustained investigation with my guidance and advice. There will be small group critiques with other AP students also. The portfolio will include 5 selected works and a sustained investigation of 15 art works or images that:
Identify in writing the questions that guided the sustained investigation.
Investigate and describe works of art and design, materials, processes and ideas.
Make art by practicing, experimenting, revising, that demonstrates synthesis of materials, processes and ideas.
Document the evaluation of their art and how their art relates to art and design traditions.
Communicate ideas about art.
Identify in writing, materials, processes, and ideas used to make.
Document presentation for the works of art for viewer’s interpretation.
Mrs. Castro
In this course students of all levels will learn various painting techniques, tricks and art styles throughout the year. Students will learn to combine design with painting techniques. Beginning to advanced students will be introduced to techniques using acrylic, watercolor, and tempera painting. Students will explore various subject matter including images, landscape. They will create art inspired by art history, different cultures, and imaginative & personal ideas, rich with color. The fourth quarter will include a mural project where students plan and execute a new mural for the site per school year/per class.
