American HS Athletics
2020-21 CIF and NCS Athletic calendar update
This last week, the CIF (here) and NCS (here) released their athletic calendar for the 2020-21 school year. We have posted a summary of the update below. They created a Fall and Spring season by reshuffling some sports without eliminating any. However, this year’s fall sports season will not officially begin until December while spring sports will not start until late February and early March. We will now open up registrations for fall sports on Family ID beginning on Monday, October 5th.
Attached here is the official letter from FUSD Director of Secondary Education, Mr. Zack Larsen, and the Athletic Directors of Fremont Unified regarding the change in the athletic calendar for the 2020-21 year as well as the FUSD decision to postpone offseason conditioning until October.
We ask that you remain patient and flexible as things change quickly, but we are working hard to provide you with the best and safest athletic experience we can under the current circumstances here at American High School. Stay strong Eagles! We look forward to seeing you soon!
2020 Fall SPORTS - ATHLETIC CLEARANCE
The first official day of Fall Sports will be:
Monday, December 14th, 2020 for Competitive Cheer, Cross-Country, Football, Volleyball (Boys and Girls), and Water Polo (Boys and Girls).
To be guaranteed to be cleared by December 14th, please have all of your paperwork submitted and uploaded by Friday, December 11th. Mr. Peffer and Mr. Hashimoto will not be checking FamilyID over the weekend. However, the window to submit your information on FamilyID here will be open until Sunday, December 13th.
PAPERWORK COLLECTION DATES
TBA - Will be dependent on whether or not we will be allowed on campus
Under normal circumstances, you may bring your physical exam (if you did not upload it on FamilyID) to Mr. Peffer or Mr. Hashimoto in Office B after school - please do not leave them under the door or give them to someone else. There are no papers to submit unless you did not upload your physical exam. You will receive an email via Family ID verifying your "Approved" status unless there is something that needs to be fixed.
There will be NO late online registration date.
You can find the directions on how to complete this process by clicking the section above called "Athletic Registration".
You will not be allowed to tryout or practice without the "Approved" status on Family ID. Any paperwork turned in on the first official day of your sport is not be guaranteed to be cleared in time for practice that day.
Note to athletes: Academic eligibility will be determined using the Quarter 1 grades from 2020-21.
Online registration at FamilyID must be submitted first
You must have the doctor stamp, sign & date a CURRENT physical examination form from an M.D. or a D.O.
The Preparticipation Physical Evaluation Form can be found on the top of the FamilyID page for Sports Registrations, where there is a section for Links. Under that, you will want to print out the form.
You will not be allowed to participate in any tryouts and/or practices until you have complete and cleared paperwork.
Please do NOT register for two different sports - you will not be cleared to try out if you do. You may only try out for one sport per season.
If you are an athlete currently in season, you must finish your current sport's season before trying out for next season's sport. Contact the coach of the next season you wish to try out for and let them know when your season will end so that a tryout can be arranged on the first day after the completion of your current season.

You can find the spreadsheet with all of the tryout dates and times for spring sports below.
Please direct all questions regarding tryouts to the coach directly. If it is a paperwork issue, please contact one of the Athletic Directors.

North Coast Section Eligibility Transfer Policy Statement
Transferring from one to school to another may affect your athletic eligibility under North Coast Section/CIF rules. All transfer students who have attended another high school are initially ineligible. Transfer students are required to meet with the Athletic Director upon enrollment at the new school.
Note: No transfer student will be allowed to participate in scrimmages or contests until approved by the North Coast Section.
It is the student's responsibility to set up a meeting with the Athletic Director.
North Coast Section Transfer information can be found at: cifncs.org. We encourage parents of transfer students to review the NCS eligibility transfer information.
