As educators you already know how important the home school connection is. You already have systems in place for your classroom and probably at the school level.
The resources below will really just be a refresher for you and things you can share with your new teacher colleague, but hopefully you will pick up something new that you might want to try.

This article does a good job of summarizing some of the research on home school connections. It does share that much of the research is about parent involvement more so than home school partnerships.
This YouTube video presents an interesting discussion of a study conducted by Duke Univ researchers. They actually found that at times parent involvement has a negative impact! They do however, look into types of involvement that can influence impact.
